Sunny Deol

Ajay Singh Deol popularly known as Sunny Deol was born to actor Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur. Sunny began acting with super hit film Betaab (1983) which was a love story also featuring another new comer Amrita Singh; this film was a major success and then he goes on making films which portrayed him as Bollywood’s best action hero. There is Arjun (1985), Tridev (1989), Ghayal (1990) among others that are too numerous to mention. Ghayal was a major success action flick which brought Sunny his first award; then he goes on to Damini (1993) featured as best supporting actor as a drunk lawyer and then came Ghatak (1996), Ziddi (1997), Border (1997) among others. Sunny also strive to be a director with Dillagi (1999) which was not so successful; in the film he acted with his younger brother Bobby Deol. We cannot forget Darr (1993) which he acted opposite Shahrukh Khan; the film that we all know him as not only a good-looking but romantic young man. In the 2000’s Sunny also made some remarkable hits, the film Gadar (2001) which displays his acting skills also Apne (2007) and Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) which he also acted with his brother Bobby and his dad Dharmendra. And also not forgetting Heroes (2008) in which we all learn that if everyone tries in life then no one is handicapped. Overall Sunny is a remarkable personality and made a name for himself; hope he continue to progress in future.

In 1992 the Morani brothers had planned to take Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol and make a movie.. The film was going to be directed by Rakesh Roshan. Sunny decided against it because he wanted Bobby Deol to concentrate solely on his debut film.

The Stardust magazine August 1984 edition had a article that claimed Sunny Deol had a 3 month old baby girl. He was spotted at the airport with his wife , his baby and his parents. They did not want anything to interfere with Sunny's career. Lynda's father sent her to his wife's relatives in Brighton England. The child was born in St.Edwards Hospital and only Lynda's mother and father were present. They named the child Babsie (Babsy).

A B grade producer named Satoo Singh managed to sign Meenashi, Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi for his up coming film. This was in 1991. Satoo was making a film with Meenakshi titled Aag Aur Suhaag. The film got into financial trouble and the producer requested Meenakshi to ask Santoshi for help. Santoshi was in love with Meenakshi and agreed. He told Satoo to launch a film starring Sunny Deol,Meenakshi Sheshadri and he would direct it. Once he could sell the film to distributors, he could take the money and complete Aag Aur Suhaag. But then Satoo Singh took out a ad for the film with so many spelling mistakes that Rajkumar Santoshi decided to change his mind. He realized Satoo was B grade producer with very low intelligence and would end up producing a horrible film.

In 1971, Sunny Deol's paternal grandfather Kewal ,had gone to see Ajit Singh Deol's in law's in Mahaal (On his way to Amritsar). Kewal Singh Deol saw a picture of Lynda Deol and thought she looked like a doll. He decided she would marry his grandson Sunny when they would become of legal age. In 1972, Kewal pretended to take a holiday to England to fix up Linda's engagement with Sunny Deol. Kewal only informed Dharmendra and Prakash when he returned from his trip. No one spoke up against Kewal's decision out of fear and respect. Kewal did not like the name Lynda, so he changed it to Pooja. Sunny first met wife Pooja in London England in June of 1974. He was sent to live at Lynda's home for a while. Here Sunny learnt swimming,squash and horse back riding from Lynda's father Krishan Mahal. Sunny also took and engineering course and started attending drama school. When Sunny came back after a few years Dharmendra was surprised with how much Sunny Deol had changed. He learnt many things he would have not been able to learn had he been in India.

Niece Prerna Gill got married in New Delhi on April 29,2017. She married famous advocate Pulkit Deora .Pukit practices in Delhi.Prerna is the daughter of sister Vijayta Deol Gill and Vivek Gill. Prerna is world famous author who had written the books ""The Shepherd Lies"" released in 2013. The second book's name was ""The Female Supernatural Being In Contemporary Gothic Literature and Film"" which released in 2015. She has also edited the book ""Obsessed"" by Ruchi Kokcha. Prerna also appeared on the cover of the novel ""Nobody Killed Her"" by Sabyn Javeri.

Wife Lynda Deol has a cousin named Raju Mahal who is a director in television. He has worked in Balaji Telefilms in the past .

In April of 1984,Sanjay Khan had started the film ""Jhunjhuna"". Starring Sanjay Khan,Anil Kapoor,Sunny Deol, Sridevi. Scripted by Javed Akhtar, to be produced and directed by Sanjay Khan. After Sanjay announced the film he backed out and started Kala Dhanda Goray Log.

After the shelving of London, Sunny Deol wanted to make a film titled ""Samaa"" with Amisha Patel directed by Joy Augustine. The film was called off after discussions.

Starred in the shelved movie Jhelum (1993/1998). The film at one point had Sanjay Dutt,Raveena Tandon. It produced by Sundar Lal Shokia,Directed by J.P.Dutta. Dutta wanted to make the film with Vinod Khanna in 1979. But due to Khanna joining Osho, all plans were dropped. Later Dutta tried to start the film with Akshaye Khanna in 1995, but realized Akshaye was too young for the role. Sunny Deol was then signed for Jhelum after Border. But Sunny Deol and Dutta had a falling out regarding his role in Border. Finally Jackie Shroff signed the film in 1998. Dutta shelved the film to work on Aakhri Mughal. In 2000, Dutta announced the film with Sunil Shetty. The project was never able to take off.

Dharmendra's cousin sister produced the film Krodhi. She is also the mother of actor Aman Virk.

Yash Chopra had planned a big budget African film in 1983. This was even before he started shooting for Mashaal. He signed Dilip Kumar,Sunny Deol and Anil Kapoor. The project was going to on the level of Hollywood. Yash Chopra had to shelve the film due to the government not giving him the required permission needed. It was based on Idi Amin and how he made Indians leave Uganda.

Suneel Darshan narrated the film Jaanwar to Sunny Deol and he agreed to do the film. Due a misunderstanding with Suneel Darshan over the shelved film London, Darshan and Sunny Deol parted ways. Darshan was part producer of the film and ended up losing time and money due to the film getting shelved.

Suneel Darshan had written a script for Sunny Deol titled ""Kal Kisne Dekha"" . This was in 2007. Sunny read the script but did not like it. Suneel Darshan then sent the script of ""Goodmorning India"" to Sunny Deol. Sunny liked the script and signed the film. Sunny then later told Darshan he would not start shooting for his films unless he would receive his dialogues. The reason being so he could know and understand exactly what his role was. Darshan decided to take legal action against Sunny claiming that Sunny was now delaying the film and causing financial losses.

In 1984,Sunny Deol signed producer Madan Mohla's film which got shelved.

Umezh Mehra wanted Sunny Deol for Teri Baahon Mein originally. The deal could not work out for unknown reasons.

Dharmendra had signed Ramesh Talwar to direct himself and son Sunny Deol for a Indo /Russian home production in 1987. It was going to be a period film written by Sagar Sarhadi . The film was shelved after Sultanant flopped.

Producer Baldev Pushkarna was a cousin of Dharmendra. Baldev's son is producer Bobby Pushkarna.
